Immersive Initiatives
To listen, to learn, to live in the moment, to experience. Culture, history, storytelling, connection, understanding, and empathy.
Some of the most meaningful learning happens when people can listen, observe, participate respectfully, ask questions and experience a place or culture beyond the classroom. Project First Nations has been fortunate to participate in a wide range of cultural, historical, educational and land-based experiences through its relationships with Indigenous communities. These experiences have helped participants deepen their understanding of Indigenous history, culture, community life, traditions, the land, and the lasting effects of historical events such as the residential school system.
Experiences That Have Shaped Our Work
PFN’s work has been shaped by many experiences shared by Indigenous communities. These moments of connection inform our approach to reconciliation and education.
PFN has, at times, been invited into culturally significant and spiritual settings, including experiences such as a sweat lodge. These are not activities that can be booked or guaranteed. Participation in sacred, ceremonial or culturally sensitive activities only occurs when invited, approved and guided by the Indigenous community or cultural knowledge holder involved.

Learning in Community
PFN may help arrange visits to Indigenous communities where there is community approval, local readiness, respect for protocols, and a clear educational purpose.
“Community visits are built around respect, learning and relationship. They take place only with appropriate invitation or approval and are shaped by the community and cultural protocols.”
Indigenous communities are not tourist destinations. Visits are never treated as sightseeing.
